Destroy your habit

2020, a year in which the whole world suffered from one common problem.
I started an interview website “ Destroy Your Habit” with artist Shohei Takasaki.

This is an inconvenience store. The regular convenience store will have the products you need. SPF 30 and Ray-Ban knockoffs? In July you’ll find them grouped together next to the inflatables. Nail clippers on the eve of Valentine’s Day? Next to the shelf of chocolates, just above the condoms. Product placement like this is the display of peak capitalism, raised and fed on data, your data. You know what you want but so do the providers. There are no new discoveries in such a system. This is what lies behind convenience.
Destroy Your Habits [DYH] is an independent interview space created as an anathema to this notion of convenience. It’s an inconvenience store, as we’d like to call it. DYH will be interviewing contemporary artists from all disciplines. A casual, silly, profound look at how to survive in this crazy world. What readers choose to “take away” from these interviews is up to each and every individual. We don’t think anybody is particularly “waiting” to read these words. Nothing about this space is “convenient”, but by virtue of your initiative to dive into the interviews, DYH hopes that you are able to unearth new discoveries to bring home into your own lives.
We at Destroy Your Habits hope that this space can act as a chisel to help rid us (staff, interviewees, and readers alike) of habits that squat in our brains and bodies. We hope it can become an archival space worth revisiting for all.

Creating a convenient place results from human progress, and human desires are inversely proportional to morals, so it is probably unavoidable. Yet, I believe questioning the current situation or seeking the right answer is also an ability of humans. 2020 was a year that allowed us to take a short break. It was a year that gave us a choice to select the way we live, the people we meet, the things we choose, the things we use, the things we give up, and the things we don't give up.

Hiro of semoh and I exchange such philosophical conversations rather than about clothes when we meet. It feels as though we are sharing stories that have no particular answer. I can tell that through the collection, films, words, and collaborations with artists, Hiro is telling us his thoughts, perspectives, and stories.

When you think about it, clothes are very close to human beings both mentally and physically, that wearing them allows us to share some of the designer's ideas. Clothing can be extraordinary in that sense. It is also a tool that will enable you to express your individuality by choosing what to wear on your own.

You know that one who jumps in for a challenge, gets hurt by it, regrets a little, seems to learn from it but then really not, thinks one is correct even when it is considered wrong in general? I find a charm in that person too. I don't think it's that bad to be like that, after all.
